February 2025 workshop: Moon to Mars Program Office updates (industry and academia deck)¶
Document: 2025-ia-workshop-moon-to-mars-program-office-updates.pdf, 16 slides, 3,784,269 bytes, from
https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/, fetched 2026-10-01T18:28:04Z (sources/manifest.csv). Title
slide: "Moon to Mars Program Office Updates", "February 2025", "Steve Creech, Assistant DAA for Technical, Moon to
Mars Program Office, NASA – ESDMD – M2MPO" (slide 1, image). Every slide's footer reads "February 2025" and "Moon
to Mars Architecture Workshops". Part of the industry and academia set on the
Architecture Workshops page. Text:

The copy. The international partners' deck is a near-copy (90% of its text in this one, per
sources/workshops-screening.md), with a short page of its own:
Program Office updates, international deck. It dates one photo to 19 February
2025.
Rank and method. A program briefing, not the architecture of record (SCHEMA, "Workshop slides"), and older than ADD Rev C (December 2025) and than the March 2026 restructuring of Artemis. It shows the Artemis campaign as planned in February 2025, which has since changed; its content goes in "In the February 2025 workshop briefing" sections, not under "Changes since Rev C". All 16 slides were read in the text layer. The images of all six text-poor slides (1, 2, 3, 4, 15, 16) were viewed, and so were slides 13 and 14 (photo captions). The text has no "Moon Base", "CUI" or "Pre-Decisional" (searched).
Summary. The Moon to Mars Program Office's status of the Artemis campaign two months after Revision B. Ten program pictures under "Artemis: A Foundation for Deep Space Exploration"; then Artemis I to V, each with its "Artemis firsts", "new elements" and "common elements", and photos of hardware progress. As planned then: Artemis III lands two astronauts at the South Pole with the Starship HLS, using NRHO; Artemis IV is the first crewed mission to Gateway, bringing the International Habitat on SLS Block 1B and using "SpaceX Sustaining Starship HLS"; Artemis V brings the Blue Moon lander, the LTV, ESPRIT and Canadarm3. Also: the agreement with Japan for the Pressurized Rover is signed, and "In 2024, 18 countries were represented" at the workshops. Nothing on the architecture's methods or gaps.

Artemis I to V as planned in February 2025 (slides 5–12)¶
As printed. Each mission slide adds "Conducting new science and technology demonstrations" (in "firsts" or "new elements"); it is left out below.
| Mission | "Artemis firsts" | "New elements" | "Common elements" |
|---|---|---|---|
| Artemis II (slide 5) | "Crewed integrated flight test of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, Orion spacecraft, and Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) at KSC"; "Active Orion Launch Abort System (LAS)"; "Demonstration of Orion life support systems"; "Proximity operations demonstrations"; "Human data collection in transit to and from the Moon, in lunar orbit, and through reentry and splashdown" | "Orion life support systems"; "Launch Complex 39B emergency egress system for crew and new liquid hydrogen system" | "SLS rocket Block 1 configuration"; "Orion crew spacecraft"; "Mobile Launcher 1" |
| Artemis III (slide 8) | "Human landing in South Pole region and return"; "Orion to human landing system direct mission including crew docking activity"; "Use of Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO)"; "Four astronauts to lunar orbit"; "Two astronauts to lunar surface to collect scientific samples and data" | "Orion full up rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking systems"; "Starship human landing system"; "Advanced spacesuits and tools to explore the surface and collect samples" | Block 1, Orion, Mobile Launcher 1 |
| Artemis IV (slide 10) | "Crewed mission to Gateway"; "Launch, delivery, and integration of a space station module in lunar orbit"; "Crew transfer from Orion to human landing system (HLS) via Gateway"; "Precursor Deep Space Logistics flight to Gateway" | "Space Launch System rocket Block 1B configuration"; "Mobile Launcher 2 with supporting ground systems"; "SpaceX Sustaining Starship HLS"; "Gateway modules: Power and Propulsion Element and Habitation and Logistics Outpost (pre-staged in orbit); International Habitat (launched on SLS Block 1B alongside the crew aboard Orion); Deep Space Logistics" | "Common SLS elements"; Orion; "Spacesuits and support systems" |
| Artemis V (slide 12) | "Use of the lunar terrain vehicle (LTV) rover by crew to access more of the lunar surface and collect diverse scientific samples"; "Use of second lunar lander design"; "Use of new RS-25 engines" | "Blue Moon human landing system"; "LTV unpressurized rover with scientific instruments"; "Gateway modules: ESPRIT Refueling Module (European System Providing Refueling Infrastructure and Telecommunications), Canadarm3 robotic arm" | Block 1B; Orion; "Mobile Launcher 2 with supporting ground systems"; "Spacesuits and support systems" |
The Artemis II slide ends "ENSURING CREW SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY!" (slide 5). No slide gives a year for any mission.
What changed since (the wiki's comparison). ADD Rev C (December 2025) still had Artemis III landing crew (p. 24). NASA's March 2026 fact sheet made Artemis III a "Human landing system & EVA suit test mission in Earth orbit — 2027" and moved the landing to Artemis IV, "early 2028" (Going back to the Moon); Gateway was later paused "in its current form" (Gateway). So the deck's Artemis III, IV and V are superseded. Artemis II flew in April 2026 (Orion). The topic page is Human Lunar Return.
International collaboration (slide 14)¶
Six captioned pictures under "PEOPLE", "HARDWARE", "LUNAR SCIENCE", "PAYLOADS" and "COMM AND NAV" (image):
- "Artemis II will be the first to send crew around the Moon and will include a Canadian crew member"
- "NASA's annual Moon to Mars Architecture Workshops engage space agencies from around the world. In 2024, 18 countries were represented"
- "Artist's concept of Gateway, including Canadarm3 and United Arab Emirates Gateway Airlock"
- "Orion European Service Module, provided by ESA and involving 10 European countries"
- "NASA completes agreement with Japan for the provision of the Pressurized Rover, which will also host multiple science instruments"
- "Several international partner science payloads were flown on Artemis I; NASA currently negotiating with several entities, including international partners, to again fly CubeSats"
- "Deep Space Station 53 is a new waveguide antenna that went online in February 2022 at NASA's Deep Space Network's ground station in Madrid"
The 18 countries of 2024 sit beside the "over 20 space agencies" registered for the 2025 international workshop (Architecture Updates, slide 2); the two count different things.
Oddities¶
As printed, images checked:
- "ESPRIT Refueling Module" on the Artemis V slide (slide 12) and "ESA Lunar View Refueling Module" in a caption (slide 13), for what the captions present as the same module. The Gateway page lists Lunar View among Rev C's components.
- "Cetner" for "Center" (slide 13); "Obsolesces" for "Obsolescence" (slide 13).
- "Mobile Launcher 1" and "Mobile Launcher 2" listed as "common" and "new" elements, beside flight hardware.
