Architecture Components: NASA web page¶

Summary. The segments, sub-architectures and elements in plain words. The text is the 2024 executive overview's (PDF pp. 22–24), with a few changes. The page says it is out of date: an "Editor's Note" at the top reads "NASA is updating this webpage to align with the latest Artemis program updates announced in February and National Space Policy initiatives announced in March", linking the March 2026 fact sheet (Going back to the Moon). So the wiki treats its segment text as written before the 2026 restructuring. Nothing on it is missing from the wiki: the segments, sub-architectures and elements have their own pages from ADD Rev C.
Sections¶
- "Segments." Four segments, "growing in complexity over time to meet more of the agency's Moon
to Mars Objectives". One paragraph pair per segment, from the 2024 overview (PDF p. 22). Changes
against the overview (the wiki's comparison):
- Human Lunar Return: the overview's "land the first woman, first person of color, and first international partner astronaut on the lunar surface" is replaced by "test systems needed for initial human missions to Mars". Rev C has neither line (Segments).
- Sustained Lunar Evolution: "aims to build future economic opportunity and greater participation" where the overview has "Will stimulate future economic investment and foster participation"; still "an 'open canvas'".
- Humans to Mars: ends "progressively longer and more complex missions there", without the overview's "in future segments beyond Humans to Mars".
- "Sub-Architectures." "Sub-architectures represent a task, technology, or process that NASA must master to achieve the Moon to Mars Objectives." One line for each of the 12, as in the 2024 overview (PDF p. 23), except Habitation Systems, which "ensure the health and performance of astronauts in enclosed environments" (the overview: "controlled environments"). The ADD's own descriptions are on Sub-architectures.
- "Elements." "Individual elements in the architecture are the systems and hardware that enable
exploration. NASA maps elements to one or more sub-architectures and they may be used across
multiple campaign segments." The paragraph on where elements come from ("Some elements predate the
architecture development effort …") and "NASA will instantiate more elements" are the 2024
overview's (PDF p. 24), already on Elements.
The elements figure's file is named
2025-elements.pngbut sits in an October 2024 upload path; it was not fetched.
