Moon to Mars Architecture: NASA's main page

Page: https://www.nasa.gov/moontomarsarchitecture/. No date on the page. Fetched 2026-10-01T07:22:02Z. File: sources/text/pages/moontomarsarchitecture.md.

Summary. The front door: "We're designing a roadmap for long-term exploration of the lunar surface, our first steps on the Red Planet, and the journey beyond, working with our partners in industry, academia, and the international community." It defines architecture in a few lines, links the four document groups, and offers a mailing list and contact routes. Several white papers cite it (see their source pages). Nothing on it is missing from the wiki.

What the page says

  • "What is Architecture?" "In this case, architecture isn't the built environment. It isn't a mission, a manifest, or a set of requirements. Instead, NASA's Moon to Mars Architecture defines the elements needed for long-term, human-led scientific discovery in deep space." And: "NASA's architecture approach distills agency-developed objectives into operational capabilities and elements that support science and exploration goals." Both are the 2024 executive overview's text (PDF p. 20). The 2023 overview had "defines the systems needed … and the relationships between them" (Architecture framework).
  • "Architecture Documents", in this order: the Moon Base Users Guide (source page), the 2025 Architecture Update (source page), the Architecture Definition Documents page and the White Papers page.
  • "Architecture and Artemis": "The Artemis missions are a key steps in realizing NASA's Moon to Mars Architecture and Objectives" (as printed).
  • "Hear from us!" A mailing list, "intended for organizations seeking to engage with the architecture process or provide feedback on the architecture".
  • "Work with us!" Twice: once for "an authorized representative of a U.S.-based organization", once for "an international space agency or government" (linking the International Engagement page). Both say to make contact "following review of the Architecture Definition Document".
  • Photo captions date two workshops (Feb. 22, and June 27, 2023); see the Workshops page.
