2026 international partners workshop deck (February 2026)¶
Document: workshop-presentations-international-for-website.pdf, 48 slides, 60,982,186 bytes, from
https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/ (sources/manifest.csv). The title slide reads "Moon to
Mars Architecture Workshop for International Partners", "Co-Hosted with the Italian Space Agency in Rome,
Italy", and every slide's footer reads "February 24-25, 2026", "Moon to Mars Architecture Workshops",
"International Partners | N" (slides 1, 2). The workshop was in February; only the upload path says March.
NASA's Architecture Workshops page lists it as "Selected charts from the 2026 Moon to Mars Architecture
workshop for international partners co-hosted Rome on February 24 and 25" (as printed;
Architecture Workshops page). Text:
sources/text/docs/2026-03-workshop-presentations-international-for-website.txt; images in
sources/raw/slides/2026-03-workshop-presentations-international-for-website/. The eight partner posters from
the same workshop have their own source pages (below).
Rank and method. A briefing, not the architecture of record (SCHEMA, "Workshop slides"). It is a near-copy
of the January 2026 industry and academia deck (80%
of its text, per sources/workshops-screening.md), which the wiki reads in full. So this page records only
what differs. The text of all 48 slides was compared with the January deck's. The images viewed were those of
the slides that differ (1, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 35, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48), plus 26, 27 and 31 to check them
against January. The other text-poor slides (2, 3, 8β12, 14, 28, 42, 43) carry the same titles and text as
their January counterparts and were compared by text only, as the rule allows. The text layer has no "Moon Base", "CUI", "Pre-Decisional" or "export"
(searched), so the pages it bears on keep their Moon Base relevance unchanged.
Summary. The same Strategy and Architecture Office charts as in January (the 2025 products, the new elements, the data gaps, the Mars crew decision, the standards), shown to international partners a month later, in Rome. Cut: the day-two panels on the environment, implementation challenges and sample return, the data-gaps roundtable and lists, and the slide naming the nine international standards and seven "Lunar Surface Specifications". Added: two "fireside chats", a before-and-after view of an ADD page (the wiki's only glimpse of Rev B), a slide on "Partnerships for Utilization", NASA's pre-formulation process for elements with partner and industry lanes, and three photo slides for Artemis II, III and IV+.
Slides against the January deck¶
| February slides | January slides | What differs |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | Title (above), over an engraving-style drawing of an orbiting station with a docked spacecraft; January's title slide was an Orion photograph |
| 2β18 | 2β18 | The same text apart from the footer (compared by text). Slides 16 and 18 keep January's wording: the three standards elevated in 2025, the NextSTEP "Appendix B" industry day and the quiet period on "fission surface power system proposals" |
| 19 | none | "Questions?" |
| 20 | none | "Fireside chat": "Your Feedback Matters: How Partners Shape the Architecture" |
| 21 | none | "Incorporating Your Feedback: ADD Before and After" |
| 22 | 6 | "Incorporating Your Feedback: Product Revitalization", repeated |
| 23 | 43 | "Data Gaps Definition", shown here and again as slide 32 |
| 24 | none | "Partnerships for Utilization" |
| 25 | none | "Pre-Formulation Process for Architecture Elements" |
| 26β27 | 22β23 | The lighting-visualization stills ("South Pole 2026"; the horizon view, "Credit: E.Wright (GSFC/SVS)"), without January's "Environmental Challenges" panel slide |
| 28β34 | 39β45 | The data-gaps briefing by Audrey Morris-Eckart, unchanged: purpose, caveats (with "Sufficient data exist to enable initial Artemis Missions in Human Lunar Return (HLR)", slide 30), examples and drivers (slide 31, with the same Data Utility table, checked on the image), definition, ADD Rev C's records, strategic impacts |
| 35β41 | 30β36 | The Mars crew briefing (MD-05). Presenters on slide 35: "Patrick Chai", "Rob Bayt", "Steve Bowen", "NASA" (January: Patrick Chai, David Baumann, Eddie Terrell). Slide 36 carries January slide 31's wording, "with consideration for the minimum to be up to six (6) crew". Slide 40's breakout is at "11:45am" (January: "10:15am"). Otherwise the same text |
| 42β43 | 37β38 | "Architecture Maturation Strategy" and "Summary" |
| 44 | none | "Fireside chat": "Moon to Mars Program Office Update: What's New? What's Next?" |
| 45β47 | none | "Artemis II", "Artemis III", "Artemis IV+": photographs without captions |
| 48 | 24 | Retitled "Problem Description β Multilateral Infrastructure & Interoperability" (January: "β Multilateral Interoperability"), now in the deck's own template with the dated footer. Same rendering, labels ("Foundational Surface Habitat" among them) and near-, mid- and long-term legend; the "Orion" label is mostly hidden behind the Gateway inset |
Not in this deck (January slide numbers): the Day of Remembrance (19), "DAY TWO" and the environment panel (20β21), "Interoperability Standards" with the nine international standards and the seven "Lunar Surface Specifications (not yet publicly available)" (25), the implementation-challenges panel and its two charts (26β29), the data-gaps roundtable and the two lists of all 25 data gaps (46β48), and the sample-return panel and chart (49β50). Slide 13's list of all 25 data gaps is kept. Pages that cite those January slides keep citing the January deck.
What the new slides add¶
ADD before and after (slide 21)¶
"Incorporating Your Feedback: ADD Before and After" shows the ADD Rev C cover beside two pages on the Orion spacecraft, labeled "Rev-B" and "Rev-C" (read from the image; the text layer has both pages' text):
- Rev B: section "3.1.4.8.2 Orion Overview" (with footnote 12), "Figure 3-9. Orion Spacecraft", a page of running text ending "The functions the Orion spacecraft fulfills in the HLR campaign segment are shown in Table 3-9", and the footer "Moon to Mars Architecture Definition Document (ESDMD-001 Rev-B MD-01)", page 96.
- Rev C: "2.3.12 Orion Spacecraft", the element one-pager with "Element Description", "Implementing Program" ("Orion Program", "Moon to Mars Program Office"), "Functional Mappings" ("Appendix B", "B.3.12"), segment and sub-architecture icons and a "Header Image" caption, page 62.
The two descriptions use nearly the same sentences. Rev C's spells out the acronyms and adds that Orion "can dock with the Human Landing System and Gateway in cislunar orbit"; Rev B's opens "NASA's next-generation spacecraft to take astronauts on a journey of exploration to the Moon and on to Mars" (the wiki's comparison of the two page images' text). Revs A and B are not among the wiki's sources (Architecture Definition Documents page), so this slide is the wiki's only view of a Rev B page: Orion was section 3.1.4.8.2 on p. 96, and is section 2.3.12 on p. 62 in Rev C (Orion Spacecraft; ADD Rev C). The slide says the change came from feedback; it doesn't say whose.
Pre-Formulation Process for Architecture Elements (slide 25)¶
A swim-lane chart, read from the image. It is the 2024 International Partnerships paper's Figure 2, "ESDMD pre-formulation process, including partner roles", under a new title (the wiki's comparison against its transcription of Figure 2):
- The same: the four milestones (ACR, "Element Initiation (EI)", "Mission Concept Review (MCR)", "Acquisition Strategy Meeting") with the same three captions; the NASA lane from "M2M Obj." and "Arch. Studies" to "M2M Program Int."; the international partners' lane ("Studies", "Partner Pre-Phase A/B", "Partner Integration", "IA"); the "Element Definition" band; the three numbered notes; the legend.
- Different, the industry lane: "Studies" β "Partner Pre-Phase A" β document "RFP". The 2024 figure has "Industry BAA, RFI, etc." where the slide has "Partner Pre-Phase A"; the slide's text layer has no "BAA". The "EI" and "MCR" documents are drawn across both partner lanes.
The slide doesn't say whether this is the "more detailed explanation of the pre-formulation process" to which ADD Rev C points on the architecture website (p. 82, footnote 24). See RT-1.
New slides¶
- Fireside chats (slides 20 and 44), each a title over a drawing of a fireplace: "Your Feedback Matters: How Partners Shape the Architecture" and "Moon to Mars Program Office Update: What's New? What's Next?". No speakers or content are given.
- "Partnerships for Utilization" (slide 24): a photograph captioned "CubeSats installed on the Artemis II Space Launch System Orion stage adapter", beside a laurel emblem. ADD Rev C lists the Artemis II CubeSats from CONAE, DLR, the Saudi Space Agency and KASA (RT-1); the slide names none.
- "Artemis II", "Artemis III", "Artemis IV+" (slides 45β47): photographs without captions or text. Printed labels visible in them: a "LOCKHEED MARTIN" banner (slide 46); "ASTROLAB" and "INTUITIVE" on two of three rovers (slide 47). Slide 47 also has a rendering of a unit with a disc-shaped top on the lunar surface. The wiki doesn't identify the hardware in these photographs. The deck predates the March 2026 changes to Artemis III (Going back to the Moon), and the slides say nothing about the missions' content.
Against other sources (the wiki's comparison)¶
- The Mars crew wording, again. Slide 15 prints ADD Rev C's "no fewer than six (6)" and slide 36 prints "the minimum to be up to six (6)", as January's slides 15 and 31 did, so NASA showed both wordings to both audiences (Key definition tasks; open question 28).
- The HLR data caveat, again (slide 30; open question 84).
- Nujoud Merancy presents as "Deputy Associate Administrator, Strategy and Architecture Office" (slide 2), as in January.
- No Moon Base. The deck never says "Moon Base" (searched); the program was announced a month later (Moon Base hub).
The partner posters¶
Eight agencies' posters from the same workshop, "Hosted here with partner permission" (Architecture Workshops page). Each is the agency's own material, not NASA's architecture; each has a source page:
Australian Space Agency Β· CNES (France) Β· European Space Agency Β· GISTDA (Thailand) Β· Italian Space Agency Β· Korea AeroSpace Administration Β· Luxembourg Space Agency Β· UK Space Agency
A summary table is on RT-1.
Oddities¶
- The text layers of slides 26 and 27 end "Industry and Academia", which the images don't show; the footers on the images read "International Partners".
- Slide 21's text layer has "Moon to Mars Program O-ice" where the image has "Office", and slide 22's has "eCiciency": lost ligatures in extraction, not slips on the slides. The URLs broken across lines on slides 16β18 are extraction artifacts too.
- Two slides appear twice: "Incorporating Your Feedback: Product Revitalization" (6 and 22) and "Data Gaps Definition" (23 and 32).
